Let me introduce you to the some salsa…

Salsa-Pico de gallo style

Salsa originated from Cuba pero now many Chican@s are moving to this fascinating music and culture. If you did not know Salsa music and dance were derived from the word sauce which in espanol translates to… you guessed it Salsa. It is said to be named Salsa because of the flavor the culture of this music and dance have. Salsa is a mix of Latin and Afro-Caribbean dances. Cuba is credited for the beginnings of Salsa but they had contributions from Rhumbas of African.

During the 1940’s, Salsa had been introduced to the strrets of Nueva York City. New Yorkers actually coined the name Salsa but they did not create the origins of the dance or music. They did however shape how Salsa is danced today by incorporating different dance moves that are widely used in Salsa.
