I found a couple of interesting articles on Latin Dance and Salsa. I went on a hunt for some interesting articles striclty online but I have found that there is not any research I have found yet based on Orange County, CA dance in general.

The first article was posted in September 2010 from Science Daily. The article talks about research in Latin Dance specifically the shoes the women wear. Latin Dance which includes Salsa is strictly limited to wearing heels for dancing. Research shows that the higher a women’s heels are the more pressure is put on their toes which can lead to discomfort and eventually a condition called plantar fasciitis. The research was dome because there is very little to no research on people using their fee and shoes/heels to do anything other than walk and run. The link below will take you to the article.

The second article talks about the health benefits of dancing Salsa. Research shows that social dance like Salsa which is usually danced with a partner has positive benefits for our health because one is socializing at the same time they are exercising by dancing. The article talks more about the variety of benefits one can gain. One major discovery is the lower risk of dementia of dance compared to any other exercise/dance.
